My students ADORE the game of "Leapfrog!" I wish I could take credit for this, but I saw this online about A DECADE AGO and have played it with my classes EVER SINCE! It is STILL A HIT THIS MANY YEARS LATER!
It is so simple yet so much fun.
Setup:
1. Cut out about 10-12 frogs.
2. On the back tape point values to each frog. My values go from 10-50 points. On two frogs, tape the word LEAPFROG.
Playing the Game:
1. Divide your class into three teams.
2. Each team sends one person up to the board to work.
3. When that person finishes the math problem, they SIT DOWN to lock in their response.
4. The first student to sit down with the correct response gets to draw a frog out of your hand.
5. If they draw out a point value, that's how many points their team gets. If they draw out the LEAPFROG, they get to STEAL all of the other teams' points! Those teams go to zero and their team gets ALL the points!
6. Yes, I have seen games where on the FINAL question a LEAPFROG is drawn and a totally different team gets to win than the one who had been winning.
The kids BEG to play this game! It is still effective this many years later!
